Domino's Pizza UK is to make an investment in outsourced IT services due to the growing importance of business technology in its operations.

Britain's leading pizza delivery company confirmed in its financial report for 2010 that a need for further IT investment has been identified based on the "explosive growth" of its online sales in the last year.

Chief executive officer Chris Moore noted that this trend has continued in the first few weeks of 2011, with internet-based sales up by 72.9 per cent compared to the same period last year.

As such, the company will be outsourcing both its website hosting and central IT infrastructure in order to further expand in this area.

It expressed confidence that this will "ensure the resilience of our online systems and to maximise the online opportunity".

Earlier this month, Everest Group published a report showing that uptake of outsourced IT services saw a major increase during the fourth quarter of 2010, due to the recovery of the global economy.
