Eco-conscious generation ‘driving uptake of home working’

Home working is becoming more popular because of the eco-conscious generation who are entering the workforce.

This is the view of Peter Thomson, director of research at the Telework Association, who said people are increasingly veering away from the idea of commuting into work.

"There is now a generation coming in and saying various old habits that applied in the past don't need to apply now," he said.

He said this group of people believe that their parents' generation was responsible for polluting the planet, but they aren't willing to do the same thing.

They think: "I'd like to do something about it, and let's start with all this stupid travel that we're doing," Mr Thomson said.

Alistair McKinnon, senior product manager of internet protocol multimedia at Virgin Media Business, said earlier this month that home working could really help deal with unexpected disruptions, such as the recently proposed Tube strikes which were due to take place this month on the London Underground.
