Embracing green IT through virtualisation ‘a positive move’

Companies that attempt to improve their energy-efficiency by investing in server virtualisation are poised to do well financially in the coming years, it has been suggested.

Writing for GreenBiz.com, Larry Vertal noted the productivity of an organisation's IT infrastructure is directly correlated to its monetary health.

And he observed employing virtual software - such as Citrix XenServer - in the data centre can help firms reduce their power consumption.

These enterprises will therefore be paying less money to pay for electricity to sustain the systems and improve their bottom line as a result, the expert stated.

He remarked: "If an organisation can achieve targets for better efficiency in their IT use, they can count on fewer [pounds] to run that equipment."

In a recent article for CXO Today, Jayant Walvekar and Pankaj Deshpande noted virtualisation played a key role in enabling companies to survive the economic crisis as they were able to better manage their IT-related costs.
