Remote server access is crucial for employees who choose home working, it has been suggested.
Andrew McGrath, executive director of commercial at Virgin Media Business, said that a dongle or a smartphone allow home working staff to access their emails, but more is needed.
"Without access to the company server, many workers will be held back from being truly productive on the move," he explained.
Mr McGrath said that home working is becoming a more prevalent trend in the UK because it is now easier than it used to be.
The "huge advances" in handsets and netbooks mean it is far simpler now for employees to work wherever they choose and it is also "more pleasurable than ever before".
Recently, Peter Thomson, director of research at the Telework Association, said around half of all jobs can be done in part from home nowadays.
Due to this, companies should be considering the advantages home working provides them with, he suggested.
