More needs to be done by employees to encourage flexible working, it has been claimed.

Stephen Overell, associate director for The Work Foundation, said the option - which can be made possible via software such as Citrix Access Gateway - is in very strong demand from employees.

The industry figure observed a mobile workforce can be beneficial to both the company as a whole and to individual members of staff.

"It is true that there is an awfully long way to go and I think in the future we will see much more adoption of flexible working," Mr Overell explained.

He added he expects to see many different forms of remote access employment become prevalent in years to come and stated it is no surprise people want more options.

According to recent research from Hays, more than half of employers claimed they would welcome plans by the government to bring flexible working opportunities to all employees.
