ERP is “alive and well”

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are set for a promising future, it has been suggested.

Writing for Government Computer News, Patrick Marshall noted vendors of the software are upbeat about the expansion of the products in years to come.

The industry expert observed providers of the technology, such as Germany-based company SAP - which produces ERP systems including SAP Business One - are focused on delivering increased modularity.

They are also attempting to integrate third-party applications to allow organisations to tailor their ERP to better match their business processes, Mr Marshall explained.

Mark Testoni, president of SAP Public Services, confirmed: "The ERP business is alive and well."

Implementations of the platforms have evolved dramatically in recent times, Mr Testoni added.

James Robbins recently reported for Automation World that ERP systems have been used by firms in the automotive industry to enable them not only to survive the recent economic downturn, but to become even stronger.
