An enterprise resource planning (ERP) system can provide a company's management with a top-down view of the firm's accounting operations, it has been suggested.
Brett Winterford, writing for ITNews, noted an organisation can build a single accounting system across all of its divisions.
The journalist used the example of Ardent Leisure - which includes set-ups such as health clubs, marinas, bowling alleys and theme parks.
Jon Ives, group IT manager at the organisation, claimed the key benefit of an ERP system is it allows consolidation of accounting technology throughout the business.
"Once [the ERP suite] is integrated with the different flavours of point of sale software we have in each division, it should give us reporting visibility across the whole group," he explained.
Contributing recently for Computer Weekly, Kathleen Hall observed the SAP Business One ERP product can help improve financial reporting capabilities for small and medium-sized enterprises in the UK.
