The world's largest producer of zinc is the latest firm to have chosen to use enterprise resource planning (ERP) software by SAP.

Nyrstar has implemented a series of SAP solutions in a bid to enjoy more effective management of its global operations.

It is in charge of mines across five continents and faces a number of unique requirements.

Nyrstar is said to have turned to SAP as it looks to solve problems in its accounting, hedging and sales operations.

Phil Palmer, chief information officer at Nyrstar, said: "By operating a lean, efficient, dynamic and flexible business underpinned by SAP software, we can focus on building a strong and sustainable future and creating value for all our stakeholders."

Stephan Klein, vice-president and head of services in oil and gas, metals and mining for Europe, the Middle East and Africa at SAP, recently said another industry that the firm understands is the oil and gas market.
