Companies that are going through a lean transformation process can still benefit from the use of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, according to an expert.
Harry McClintock, a project manager at Panorama Consulting Group, has stated that the idea that ERP systems should be discarded by firms seeking to minimise their business processes is a misconception.
He said ERP software can work in tandem with corporate efforts to become leaner, due to the fact that the transformation will make the company's planning and control systems more streamlined and easier to manage.
According to the expert, this will also simplify the use of business management software, reducing its overall cost of usage and making new ERP systems easier to implement.
"The key to working ERP in a lean environment is to select the ERP features that work best with lean and discard those that don't," he added.
This comes after fellow Panorama analyst Greg Griffith stated last week that companies must consider which ERP usage strategy best suits the needs of their business.
