Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software can provide companies in the manufacturing business with the tools necessary to better organise their financial procedures, it has been suggested.

Writing for Internet Evolution, Michael Singer noted the technology has been implemented by Summit Brewing Company.

The firm produces 100,000 barrels of beer each year - making it the 26th largest brewer in the US - but chief information officer at the organisation Anthony Cayko noted the ERP system was required after problems with back ordering kept recurring.

He claimed the corporation would not know when they were out of certain products until the delivery trucks appeared and noted ordering relied on a "gut-feeling".

"Now, we can run algorithms and graphically see where we are going to be, which helps us adjust budgets and forecasting," the industry figure explained.
