The potential to run enterprise resource planning (ERP) software via mobile apps on the latest smartphones appears to be growing, if the latest words from one SAP expert are to be believed.

Oliver Bussmann, chief information officer at the technology company, told CRN that a growing number of devices are now used by SAP.

As well as the previously authorised Apple iPhone and iPad, the firm is now running its solutions on Android-powered Samsung models.

And ERP software features – including customer relationship management (CRM) – are among those that will be widely used via handsets in the years to come.

"The explosion of mobile apps will begin to take hold in the enterprise. We see this a lot in our own offices. We have mobile business intelligence, analytics and CRM apps now," explained Mr Bussmann.

He recently told Sybase blog writer Eric Lai that SAP's use of iPads has resulted in its staff being able to take advantage of ERP without having to make any effort.
