Sustainability is becoming increasingly important among British companies, potentially leading many to adopt efficient technologies such as enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
Alan Aldridge, executive director at the Energy Services and Technology Association, used the organisation's recent meeting in Manchester to detail the factors behind a rising desire for going green.
He said there are three main factors that are forcing firms to consider their environmental footprint and make attempts to reduce it.
Firstly, the price of energy is soaring, so cutting back is likely to trigger savings, while climate change and the subsequent need to be green is another incentive.
The issue of energy supply is a final consideration for business leaders.
"Brand value counts - not just to commercial organisations, it counts to other authorities. They want to have the right links," Mr Aldridge stated.
Leading ERP software provider SAP was recently named by Computerworld as one of its top 12 green IT bodies in the world.
