Businesses that wish to customise their enterprise resource planning (ERP) software system have been advised against being in a rush to do so.
IT expert Ajay Gupta told informIT that choosing to make changes to an ERP system while it is in the process of being implemented could lead to a number of potential problems.
He suggested that doing so may make the process more costly, while it can also be difficult for firms to assess their exact customisation needs and judge whether the changes they are making are providing benefits or not.
As such, Mr Gupta advised waiting until an ERP software system has been fully implemented before deciding whether or not changes need to be introduced.
"Customisation in year two, or after the organisation has reached maturity with the ERP, has a far greater chance of being successful," he said.
This comes after Greg Griffith of Panorama Consulting Group offered advice last week stating that companies implementing ERP software should ensure they select a strategy that is right for them.
