Leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) software manufacturer SAP has provided the greatest example of all of how to deploy its mobile solutions on the Apple iPad.

At the end of 2011, the company had issued 14,000 of the signature tablet computers to 53,000 members of staff, each fitted with the latest enterprise applications.

Oliver Bussmann, SAP's chief information officer, has told Sybase blog writer Eric Lai how the firm is able to make the most of ERP in an efficient manner by having it available via handsets.

"Because we are so automated here, the amount of effort for an IT administrator to deploy an iPad is really zero, especially compared to a laptop which everyone has to touch," he stated.

SAP is second only to Korea Telecom in terms of the number of iPads deployed within an organisation, as the Asian firm launched a mass rollout of 30,000 devices a year ago.

Silicon India recently reported Mr Bussmann as suggesting SAP employees have come to rely on the iPad and that it helps the business overcome several potential problems.
