SAP is aiming to reach the pinnacle of the database sector, an area in which it is already enjoying rapid rates of growth.

The Indian InformationWeek has told how the enterprise resource planning (ERP) software specialist has plenty of factors in its favour when it comes to making waves in this market.

For instance, it has 170,000 application customers in place, a reputation for innovation and a range of iconic products on the market.

Steve Lucas, global executive vice-president and general manager of database and technology at SAP, said: "There's no reason why we can't create features that are unique to our database product, with our applications. And there's no reason why we can't create competitive pricing for our own databases and applications."

The publication added that, more than anything else, it is SAP's solutions that will help it reach its goals.

SAP has recently spelled out its determination to advance in a variety of areas, including mobility and the cloud.
