There are many benefits associated with investing in enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.

From the potential to reduce costs, to enhanced data management and greater efficiency levels, the reasons to adopt the technology are numerous.

But, if one expert is to be believed, deploying cloud-based ERP could provide another incentive – the chance to ramp up security.

Mark Dampster, associate of the Centre for Cyber Security, explained that using the cloud is "the new way forward", as it provides a secure platform on which to host data and enjoy high levels of efficiency.

"The message is that everybody needs to understand how the systems will work and do some risk assessment with the supplier of the service and the staff who use it," he stated.

Greg Schulz, founder of research and content generation firm StorageIO.com and author of Cloud and Virtual Data Storage Networking, recently told how adding cloud technology to a system can aid connectivity to it.
