The benefits of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software can be experienced by companies in a huge variety of sectors.

A new report by the Aberdeen Group has revealed two areas that it believes the technology can be a success.

ERP in Wholesale and Distribution, authored by Nick Castellina, senior research associate at Aberdeen Enterprise Applications, found that there is plenty to be gained by using such solutions.

It noted that wholesalers and distributors are clamouring to invest in ERP software, with 83 per cent now believed to have done so.

Among the results of using ERP are a 17 per cent reduction in operating costs, a ten per cent lowering of inventory and a 16 per cent advancement in the time it takes to complete deliveries.

Scott Koegler, author of Multisite Systems Integration and a former chief information officer, recently told Internet Evolution that smaller companies can benefit by pooling their ERP software together.
