India has been named as one of the spots in the world where enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is being adopted at a fast pace.

Research body Gartner, releasing its Hype Cycle that looks at the information and communication technology industry, said there are several rising trends in the Asian country.

One of the major features is the widespread take-up of ERP software, with the analyst group predicting it will be "mainstream" within the next two years.

It said that this will be achieved by widening its focus from large businesses towards small and medium-sized enterprises too.

"In India, most of the technologies have a high to moderate benefit for organisations and will take two to five years for mainstream adoption," explained Asheesh Raina, principal research analyst at Gartner.

SAP, one of the leading providers of ERP software, recently launched its CFO Leadership Centre site to offer business bosses expert tips on how to operate.
