SAP – best known in the technology industry for its high-quality enterprise resource planning (ERP) software solutions – has been recognised once more for its commitment to the environment.

Sustainability Roundtable, a private research and consulting firm, has identified the technology manufacturer as its eco-friendly winner of the last 12 months.

It named SAP as the Sustainable Real Estate Roundtable's Outstanding Corporate Leader of the Year 2011 at a recent SR Inc summit in Washington.

SR Inc's chief executive officer Jim Boyle said: "SAP's approach is top to bottom, global and industry-leading; it has resulted in cost avoidance of more than €185 million (£156 million) since 2008 and a carbon footprint reduction of 25 per cent since 2007."

SAP's desire and ability to drive sustainability optimisation around the world is given as a reason for its triumph.

Peter Graf, chief sustainability officer at SAP, recently said the company is constantly looking at ways to make working even greener, FierceCIO reported.
