When it comes to enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, nobody does it better than SAP.

Despite the ongoing economic crisis engulfing all four corners of the globe, the company managed to report its best-ever financial results for the third quarter of 2011.

Forbes has reported that SAP co-chief executive officer Bill McDermott was asked by talk show host Jim Cramer recently exactly how the firm managed to achieve such success.

Mr McDermott said the key is to change with the times, as customers need to be mobile and work in the cloud.

"We're executing our strategy and we're determined to make the world run better and to improve people's lives," he stated.

The chief went on to note that by simply delivering exactly what customers require, SAP has been able to enjoy considerable success in Europe, despite other businesses writing it off as a location where growth is not possible.

Peter Lorenz, executive vice-president of SAP OnDemand Solutions, told InformationWeek recently that SAP is "very serious" about expansion in the database sector.
