The secrets behind the considerable success of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software specialist SAP have been revealed by one of its executives.

Sanjay Poonen, president for global solutions at the company, used a video interview with the Washington Post to describe his view on its recent record-breaking financial results for the fourth quarter of 2011.

He said there are several pillars upon which SAP is built, including the desire to be innovative within the technology market.

"We focused the company eight quarters ago around three innovations – big data, mobility and cloud. And we really honed that innovation, put on a story and solutions that are very relevant to the customers," Mr Poonen stated.

The expert noted how SAP remains committed to its customers and how consumer centricity plays a huge role in its work. Indeed, all of its innovations are completed with the customer in mind, Mr Poonen added.

SAP also prides itself on its green credentials and last week it revealed it managed to increase its carbon efficiency levels in 2011.
