Leading enterprise resource planning (ERP) software manufacturer SAP has outlined its determination to force itself towards the top of the database market.
Just days after AFP reported Jim Hagemann Snabe, one of the company's two co-executives, as telling Focus it is aiming to become the world's number one cloud computing provider, another chief has spoken of its ambitions when it comes to databases.
Peter Lorenz, executive vice-president of SAP OnDemand Solutions, told InformationWeek the firm is "very serious" about the sector.
SAP is targeting number two status in the database vendors table by 2015, as part of plans to become either the first or second largest provider of solutions in every market it works in.
"We are very serious about on-demand, so we want to make sure we have people who are only measured by their success in the cloud," Mr Lorenz stated.
The publication noted the database market is said to be worth approximately $20 billion (£12.8 billion).
