Investing in SAP's enterprise resource planning (ERP) software could be a key step on the road towards a single IT platform that supports efficient operations.

Jane Moran, chief information officer at Thomson Reuters, has been speaking on the subject of her company's set-up after recently completing a merger, reported CIO UK.

The publication noted that this is a process that relies equally on staff working as a team and a great IT system being in place.

"We standardise finance on SAP. The company used to have three SAP development centres," explained Ms Moran.

She added that there is now a single platform and a central IT base that allows bosses to manage staff more effectively and ensure the smooth running of the organisation.

Another benefit of using SAP is the company's environmentally-conscious outlook, which is based on the idea of always finding new green ways to work, it was recently said by Peter Graf, chief sustainability officer at the firm, reported FierceCIO.
