SAP, one of the world's most prestigious providers of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, has been selected by a firm to offer solutions it hopes will trigger a range of business benefits.

Varian Medical Systems is a user of the company's technology and is said to be reaping the rewards.

The medical devices manufacturer selected SAP after it came under increasing public scrutiny and was asked to adhere to a growing number of product safety and sustainability regulations.

It was able to comply with the rules more effectively, quickly and profitably as a result of its use of SAP equipment, as it allowed it to embed features that met the regulations across its business processes.

"With sustainability solutions from SAP, Varian has established a platform that allows us to collect and analyse product information from within Varian and from our supply chain [and] determine compliance status," said Snehashish Sarkar, senior manager of enterprise at the medical brand.

SAP recently announced the takeover of SAF Simulation, Analysis and Forecasting, which it said is designed to improve the functionality of its products.
