Enterprise resource planning (ERP) software giant SAP has hit the headlines in recent days for its proposed takeover of SuccessFactors, which is said to have moved a step closer this week.
This move could be welcomed by industry observers and supporters of the company, who may be desperate for it to emphasise its cloud credentials.
Michael Hodel, a chartered financial analyst and associate director of research with Morningstar, has written a piece for the publication suggesting the acquisition gives SAP the chance to at least prove itself when it comes to the cloud.
He noted SAP – and some of its rivals in the ERP software market – have "finally entered the cloud race".
Mr Hodel went on to suggest this is evidence of SAP backing its verbal commitment to the cloud with a financial investment.
SAP was recently picked out in by the International Data Corporation, which named it as a top performer in the customer relationship management sector in its Worldwide Semiannual CRM Tracker.
