ERP software specialist SAP plots EMEA growth

SAP has planned a significant expansion of its enterprise resource planning (ERP) software operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), which it believes will be made possible by the creation of a new delivery centre in Romania.

The company has confirmed the opening of the new facility, at which SAP Romania aims to employ approximately 400 expert consultants by 2014, Business Review reported.

Between €30 million (£25.7 million) and €40 million is being invested in the project and will pay for the initial cost of the new base and the training of a number of staff.

Gheorghe Olteanu, director of the new SAP headquarters in Bucharest, said two other offices in the country – in Cluj and Timisoara – will report to it.

"The reasons why we chose Romania are very simple: A nearshore centre needs to have scalability, good universities and language advantages," Mr Olteanu stated.

Banking group Barclays has set a precedent when it comes to the effective use of SAP technology, as it was named by the firm as the winner of its Best Practices in Application Lifecycle Management and Run SAP Like a Factory titles at the recent SAP Customer Centre of Excellence Awards.
