ERP system sales boosted by data management requirements?

23rd March

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems may experience a boost in sales, as one expert reveals many businesses are hoping to improve their data consistency issues.

Daragh O’Brien, former director of publicity and member of the International Association for Information and Data Quality, said recent research has uncovered a desire for more control in this area.

A study by Thomson Reuters and Lupus, published earlier this month, found 44 per cent of firms see clear data as a key driver for compliance.

Mr O’Brien said: "Fragmentation of systems is a contributor to poor quality information as it introduces issues of timeliness [and] integrity of data."

According to the expert, financial services organisations in particular are exploring avenues that may enable them to boost their risk-management processes.

The ability of ERP systems to centralise disparate business operations was recently highlighted by Ronnie Kidd, managing director for administration at the US city of Abilene.

He told Government Computer News that ERP systems standardise a range of multifaceted modules.
