ERP systems a “secret weapon” against climate change

12th November

Companies looking to invest in ERP systems could benefit from SAP Business One, a streamlining business solution specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems could be influential in boosting environmentally-friendly procedures in organisations, one expert has claimed.

Research director at forecasting body Datamonitor Warren Wilson noted that IT is the one industry that will drive carbon reduction plans ahead.

"The biggest opportunity by far is leveraging IT, especially enterprise software, to make entire organisations greener," he told delegates at the Green IT Expo 2009 in London.

Implementing ERP platforms could help to bring down the 98 per cent of greenhouse gases that are brought about through cars, properties and manufacturing, Mr Wilson added.

According to the specialist, IT is the "secret weapon" that can bring together contributions made by other sectors such as reforestation and renewable energy.

Technology such as this not only has the benefit of being energy-efficient, he concluded, but it offers a cost-effective solution also.

The Green IT Expo is a sustainable computing exhibition aimed at senior decision-makers within the industry.
