ERP systems ‘are a long-term investment’

5th March

Category: ERP systems

Businesses that are concerned about the implementation costs of an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system should consider the long-term benefits.

This is the suggestion of chief information officer Marc Hebert, who wrote in an article for SiliconIndia Magazine that ERP platforms recently celebrated their 20th anniversary.

He noted that while large-scale deployments of this technology can be daunting in terms of cost, there are clear economic advantages for firms looking to prepare themselves for the future.

"The dramatic increases in economic productivity … during the current recession are in no small measure due to the economies of scale in agile business processes enabled by strong ERP infrastructure," Mr Hebert added.

According to the expert, organisations that committed to the initial outlay of ERP integrations at the turn of the century are now benefiting from generating "enormous" profits.

The price of ERP implementation was recently highlighted by Thomas Wailgum of Computer World, who stated that software is currently more cost-efficient.
