ERP systems ‘boost replenishment abilities’

Manufacturing firms can benefit from integrating enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems through improved stock replenishment functions, it has been claimed.

According to a white paper published on Supply Chain Market, there is a "staggering level of inefficiency" regarding the amount of waste goods in companies of this type around the world.

Quoting research from IDC Manufacturing Insights, the document noted that $900 billion (£597 billion) a year is lost through improper stock practices.

"Linking ERP with an automated wireless parts replenishment solution gives the concept of continuous improvement real meaning," the article stated.

It went on to say that many supply chains are less efficient due to the complexity of monitoring parts, material and equipment, particularly in larger organisations where their operations may be global.

Issues such as this can be tackled by ERP, as it allows users to oversee real-time functions from a wide range of modules in a single package, India-based IT firm eresource Infotech recently claimed.
