Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems can be implemented to help drive down administrative costs, it has been suggested.
Writing for The Journal, Evan Tassistro observed the software could better a company's operational efficiency while also upgrading its IT system functionality.
The reporter highlighted the example of the North East Independent School District (NEISD) in Texas, US, which has deployed the technology in a bid to save on day-to-day running fees.
Richard Middleton, superintendent of schools at the organisation, explained: "Our current IT systems and processes lacked the features and functionality we needed to support the business operations of a school district our size."
More than 65,000 students are currently served by the NEISD, which also employs a total of more than 9,000 individuals - 4,400 of whom are teachers.
The Wall Street Journal recently suggested firms wanting to gain greater control of their stock level operations might want to consider investing in an ERP system.
