Running a successful enterprise resource planning (ERP) project relies on good communication between relevant departments, one expert has suggested.
Writing for Business Finance, senior vice-president of Ventana Research Robert Kugel said that this is particularly true for finance and IT professionals.
"By now, almost all large companies have relegated the upkeep of their ERP system to their IT department; finance typically has little interest or involvement," he remarked.
However, Mr Kugel noted these types of platforms are "the most important piece of software" that accounting personnel use and so their input is invaluable.
Ensure that a proper dialogue is opened between the business, finance and IT sides of the firm, he advised, as well as involving any external auditors, to guarantee that any installation or upgrade goes according to plan.
In November, author Frank Newman highlighted the importance of ERP software - such as SAP Business One - commenting that it can make enterprises more attractive to investment.
