ERP systems the “backbone” of today’s companies

17th November

Companies looking to invest in ERP systems could benefit from SAP Business One, a streamlining business solution specifically designed for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Companies around the world are continuing to invest in enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems despite the global economic downturn, a new report has suggested.

According to the survey, carried out by Forrester Research, over two-thirds of firms have plans to maintain or increase their current level of spending in technology of this kind, IDG reports.

Principal analyst of the organisation Paul Hamerman said that even though IT budgets have fallen significantly in 2009, many businesses still see ERP platforms as the "backbone" of their operations.

Commenting on the figures, he remarked: "This level of activity is significantly higher than the other key packaged application categories, including customer service, human resource management, order management and supply chain."

The data was taken from nearly 400 company decision-makers in North America and Europe, with only one per cent of those polled looking to reduce their expenditure on ERP systems.

In recent news, director of advisory services at the National Computing Centre Michael Dean commented that organisations cutting their investment in this area will lose out in the long run.
