Category: ERP systemsEnterprise resource planning (ERP) systems rarely get the praise they deserve for the data management services they provide, one specialist has suggested.
Writing for ZDNet UK, software applications journalist Adrian Bridgwater stated that data extraction, cleansing and verification processes rarely hit the headlines, but are important nonetheless.
"Programmers build these systems and then develop tools to extract commercially motivated functions from the nicely verified and collated data," he remarked.
However, this is often perhaps overlooked as too back-office to warrant much attention, Mr Bridgwater added, although it "affects the lives of technology professionals everywhere".
Upgraded ERP systems - such as SAP Business One - can be used to integrate a range of different modules, including inventory, financial and production, into a single unified focus, he concluded.
Similar sentiments were recently expressed by chief financial officer for Portland, Oregon Jennifer Sims, who told Government Technology that switching to ERP software enabled the state to create a reliable source of data.
