Companies and staff around the country have been advised that home working is an option that can benefit everybody.

Shirley Borrett, development director at the Telework Association, explained her belief that there are a range of advantages to the practice.

She said that these range from environmental factors – such as a reduction in the size of carbon footprint – to economical ones, like the removal of travel costs.

"We believe that for a percentage of a lot of jobs, home is a good place to do it ... All of the evidence [points to] the employer getting better productivity and loyalty," Ms Borrett stated.

She went on to say that home working technology could be set up to work from other locations too, as it is now likely that remote staff can be spotted in any branch of Starbucks or hotel.

Kim McGuinness, who runs Network Central, told the Sydney Morning Herald recently that good planning is the key to successful home working.
