Spending on enterprise resource planning (ERP) software and other solutions is expected to grow over the coming years – but it will not be led by its most traditional markets.
Research body Gartner has revealed new statistics that show while a small decline may have to be overcome in 2011, a 2.3 per cent expansion is likely in 2012 and further booms are predicted until 2015.
But western Europe – which currently makes up 80 per cent of spending in the Europe, Middle East and Africa area – is to fall below this average, as other geographic areas drive growth.
Commenting on enterprise IT spending over the coming years, Gartner's senior vice-president and global head of research Peter Sondergaard said: "Your choices will depend on which geographies you operate in, your industry and the strength of your organisation when the economic storm arrives."
Leading ERP software provider SAP recently announced positive financial results for the third quarter of 2011, which it said was its seventh consecutive quarter of double-digit growth.
