Firms ‘must be diligent about outsourced IT security’

Embracing an outsourced IT-based technology model requires companies to be as diligent about security as they would be if handling the processes internally.

This is the advice of Anna Frazetto, vice-president of technology solutions for recruitment firm Harvey Nash, who stated that managed services companies "must be held to the very highest levels of process excellence and security and confidentiality accountability".

She suggested that organisations should treat outsourced IT firms as "extensions of internal teams", adding that high-end providers will "expect no less".

Ms Frazetta also advised businesses that are unsure about outsourcing their projects to start with smaller, non-critical workloads in order to test the skills and services of providers.

Once it has been established that quality and security standards can be met, companies can begin assigning more important and larger-scale projects.

Earlier this month, eWeek Knowledge Center contributor Mike Alley stated that clear communication between companies and their managed services partners is essential.
