The importance of purchasing the correct enterprise resource planning (ERP) system can not be understated, it has been claimed.

According to global market intelligence firm IDC, buying a platform that is able to cope with the changing business needs of an organisation is "the single most important criterion" when making a selection.

It stated that investing in the right software could help firms to "minimise change-related revenue loss, business disruption, stock price declines and … lost business opportunities".

Enterprises "may lack an understanding" of how vital it is in terms of savings and preventing process delays to choose the right technology, IDC added.

The company’s comments came in a new technology industry white paper that surveyed 214 executives of businesses from a range of industries on their experiences of implementing ERP systems.

Writing for Computer World, Thomas Wailgum recently advised organisations to keep up-to-date on innovations in ERP to take advantage of the benefits they provide.ADNFCR-2732-ID-19501990-ADNFCR
