Flexible and home working can be attractive to firms

Companies looking to give their workforce mobility levels a boost by adopting products such as Citrix XenApp may wish to target flexible working.

Mike Emmott, employee relations adviser at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, explained that there are many benefits to an adaptable staff.

Whether it is by introducing the option of home working, or by offering flexible hours, companies can gain in a number of ways.

"They see the business benefits of helping employees balance their work with their lifestyle and personal commitments, at a time when organisations need to be driving competitive edge through their people," stated Mr Emmott.

He added that firms gain more from workers who are prepared to give everything – albeit at unorthodox hours and from remote locations – over those who are unhappy with standard practices.

Transport minister Norman Baker recently highlighted home working as a good option for employees during next year's Olympic Games in London.
