Companies that offer flexible working conditions are more attractive to top employees, it has been suggested.
Mike Petrook, spokesman for the Chartered Management Institute, was speaking in response to figures gathered by recruitment specialists Hays, which revealed firms are not realising the potential of remote access employment.
The specialist noted flexible working, which can be put into place using software such as Citrix Access Gateway, is the key for enterprises wanting to get the best out of their staff members.
"By being inflexible in terms of the type of employment that you’re offering, your organisation could be shutting itself off to reams of top talent," he explained.
Mr Petrook added employers should focus less on the bureaucracy of the hours and location in which people work and more on the quality and quantity of their productivity.
Labour party leader candidate Ed Miliband recently stated he believes every worker in the UK should have the right to request flexible working patterns.
