Flexible working ‘can boost morale’

Companies that adopt flexible working practices could see staff confidence and productivity given a boost, it has been claimed.

Max Taylor, director of corporate marketing at Orange, noted a mobile workforce - which can be achieved with software such as Citrix XenApp - can also help reduce overheads.

The industry figure observed: “Allowing employees to work flexibly actually presents a significant opportunity for businesses to save money and improve employee morale.”

Developing a system of remote access employment is straightforward and does not require significant investment, he explained.

Mr Taylor added the main factor in making the strategy work is employer willingness to provide workers with the tools they need, as well as bosses agreeing to a slight shift in management styles to accommodate the changes.

The comments came after Orange released research that found 53 per cent of new graduates expect to be granted flexible working when they find a job.
