Good ERP system management is vital, expert says

Businesses need to ensure they effectively manage their teams working on enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, one industry specialist has claimed.

Cliff Simmons of the Panorama Consulting Group, writing for the firm’s blog, said the large-scale nature of some implementations can lead to disagreements among personnel.

Once an ERP deployment gets into full swing, he commented, it is important supervisors keep their core workers focused on the project at hand.

"Managing dissent constructively is a great way to create a much higher performing team," Mr Simmons said. "Get everyone possible on board the train - it’s leaving the station with or without everyone on board."

Making sure ERP teams feel valued is one way of appeasing staff, he added, while it is also important to be completely clear on who is accountable for each stage of development.

In February, Robert Kugel of Ventana Research noted in an article for Business Finance that line managers should ensure they keep ERP systems running at full capacity after implementation.
