Government ‘to focus on green IT’

28th October

Category: Virtualisation

Green IT is to become one of the core targets of the current coalition government, which has released information on how it intends to strengthen its eco-friendly operations.

The Cabinet Office has added further details to the IT development strategy that was first disclosed by Westminster in March.

It focuses on a balance between the need to cut costs and improve efficiency, while at the same time delivering good public services.

Bosses believe the document will help them to "provide the environment and approaches to radically transform the ICT landscape to create a more productive, flexible workforce that delivers digital public services in a much more cost effective way".

It is thought that an increasing reliance on cloud computing will be felt across government departments.

Mrs Green – the founder of Littlegreenblog.com, using a pseudonym – recently said that the use of green IT makes sense to businesses for a variety of reasons.
