Government’s £60m cloud computing project attracts significant interest

The government's announcement that it is to invest heavily in cloud computing has sparked huge interest among providers of the technology.

According to Cloud Pro, some 380 bids to carry out a £60 million project on behalf of the national authority have already been received.

Plans for the widespread adoption of cloud computing in Westminster were first revealed in March in the Strategic Implementation Plan.

The Guardian recently suggested between 250 and 300 bids for the work have been made, but director of the G-Cloud programme Chris Chant told the website the number is actually much higher.

Mr Chant is reported as stating that while the take-up of cloud solutions cannot happen overnight, it is "unacceptable for things to remain the same".

Earlier this week, Cloud Pro told how former Dragons' Den star James Caan was surprised when he found out how affordable the switch to the cloud can be.
