Green IT ‘to be a priority for businesses’

21st July

Category: Virtualisation

Companies in the western world will begin to value green IT increasingly over the next four years, according to the latest research.

Analyst body Gartner has revealed that 60 per cent of firms in Europe and North America will rate their environmental impact as one of their top five priorities by 2015.

Products from the Microsoft Hyper-V range could go some way towards improving performance in this area.

Commenting on the benefits of green IT, Simon Mingay, research vice-president at Gartner, said: "A sustainable approach to business activities is generating tangible business benefits for organisations today, through a combination of operational efficiencies and market growth opportunities."

Businesses that perform well in this area will reap not only financial benefits but also a surge in their reputation and standing within their chosen industry.

Michiel van der Voort, director for international and professional development at BCS - The Chartered Institute for IT, recently praised the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme as he believes it will assist companies when it comes to implementing green IT practices.
