Ahead of its prestigious Outsourcing Summits conference, research body Gartner has set out ten steps it believes will lead firms to making the most of outsourced IT and other similar strategies.
Outsourcing Summits is due to take place in London on September 26th and 27th, while the US event is currently being held in Orlando and runs until tomorrow (September 14th).
The study group said firms that follow its steps must put in place a complex and repetitive strategy that requires investment.
"Organisations that fail to master this initial phase in the sourcing life cycle are subsequently less likely to select appropriate providers, negotiate a sound contract and effectively manage the deal," said Claudio Da Rold, vice-president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.
Among the steps set out by Gartner are the importance of setting context and objectives, assessing management capability and evaluating the constraints and opportunities of outsourced IT.
Erica Nicole of the Young Entrepreneur Council, writing for Business Insider, recently said that she wished she had used outsourcing soon after starting her company to relieve some of the pressure.
