A health organisation has told of the reasons behinds its decision to implement Citrix XenDesktop technology throughout its set-up.

Mater Health Services – based in Queensland, Australia – is a non-profit provider of medical services.

It chose Citrix XenDesktop products – as well as those from the XenServer range – in order to allow its doctors to work remotely.

The organisation believes quick and reliable access to medical records and business programs will greatly enhance the service its clinicians can provide.

"Citrix is committed to working with healthcare organisations such as the Mater to reduce the cost and complexity of their existing desktop infrastructures as they continue to adapt to new business challenges and opportunities," explained Peter Brockhoff, Citrix's area vice-president for Australia and New Zealand.

Another factor in the decision to install Citrix technology is its ability to bring high-resolution images to medical workers at short notice – something other solutions are said to have struggled with.

Citrix was recently named in the Leaders category in the IDC MarketScape: Desktop Virtualisation 2011 Vendor Analysis for June.
