Category: Workforce mobility

The benefits of home working are well known among many in the business world, including both employers and employees.

From the potential for greater productivity to improved staff morale and loyalty, there are numerous reasons to invest resources in the practice.

James Kendrick, writing for ZDNet, has had his say on the matter, noting there are several factors people must get right in order for home working to be a success.

Firstly, he recommended setting out a clearly defined workspace to avoid the mistake of merging professional activities with domestic life.

The author went on to suggest regular breaks are another key factor of successful home working, as well as keeping up with a pre-defined work schedule.

Mr Kendrick noted that employees will find their satisfaction is also greater if they eat lunch away from the desk and play soothing music to keep their mind in focus.

Dr Clare Kelliher, senior lecturer in strategic human resource management at the Cranfield School of Management, recently said that flexible working options can be appreciated by staff.
