Firms have been advised by a senior politician that home working can be the key to unlocking the full potential of staff.
Malaysia's human resources minister Dr S Subramaniam has urged businesses to give more consideration to such flexible techniques, reported the New Straits Times.
He suggested that some are still hesitant when it comes to investing in home working and associated practices, but now is the time to be bold.
Employers in the country are said to still want to see their workers turn up to the office, despite this resulting in lower productivity, said Dr Subramaniam.
Research reveals women are particularly successful when home working, with some tasks taking just half the time they do to complete in the office.
"There are many women who are now housewives simply because they do not want to commit to full time employment. This is a good alternative for them," the minister stated.
Last month, it was revealed that the UK government is to make it easier for companies to offer home working to staff, with the Anywhere Working consortium set up to promote the process.
