Companies looking to retain the best staff by allowing them to have some say over when and where they carry out their role could be wise to offer home working.
Dr Clare Kelliher, senior lecturer in strategic human resource management at the Cranfield School of Management, explained the ability to work flexibly is often appreciated by employees.
As well as the potential to mix home activities with professional responsibilities, people may have the chance to choose their working hours, perhaps leaving tasks until the evening if they so wish.
"Generally speaking that's well received by employees – to have some element of choice as to when they carry out work," Dr Kelliher stated.
Malaysia's human resources minister Dr S Subramaniam was recently quoted by the New Straits Times as suggesting home working can result in ultimate productivity, noting it is a particularly good option for women who may have responsibilities that prevent them committing to a full-time job.
